If wanting to understand and get inside the depths of a 16 year old boys mind, while going through the roughest road of his life, this book is for you. In Breathing Underwater, Nick Andreas falls in love with the typical, beautiful, high school girl, Caitlin. They become close and share all their secrets, but someone starts to take over Nick, little by little. He becomes very controlling and selfish, especially when it comes to Caitlin. When his snotty comments lead to physical abuse, Caitlin has to get out. With flashbacks of Nick trying to understand where his relationship with Caitlin went wrong, he realizes the truth behind who he truly is and wants to be in life. The book did get annoying at times with all of his stuck up actions in life, but I really did enjoy the book. Also, I wish I could have heard more of Caitlin’s input and thoughts.
